The Orthodox Calendar in English is available (again) on the Play Store

I’m very happy to announce that the Orthodox Christian Calendar for Android devices is available for free download from Google’s Play Store, again. It was erroneously suspended by Google, thus there was no chance for restoring the old store listing, with all the reviews, comments, history, etc.

This also means that you will need to remove the old version of the app before installing the new one (it’s not a problem to have them both installed, but you might get confused opening the old version by mistake).

But, the calendar is back online, updated and fixed to work with the newest Android versions. Here’s what’s new in version 4.1:

Notifications: the app can remind you (at a time you choose) about tomorrows feasts and saints.
Menu button on the main screen – this was a long requested feature, since the menu button was removed from the newer versions of Android.
Widget display is now consistent throughout all sorts of devices and screen formats and sizes.
The external links have been updated.

English version of the Orthodox Calendar app removed from the Play Store by Google

Google determined that the English version of the Orthodox Calendar app for Android was a spam-app, and suspended it from the Play Store. I filed a complaint, but as an answer I only got excuses stating that the process is done and there is nothing more I can do. If I want to put the same app in the Play Store again, I will need to submit it under a different name.

That is a sad development of events, as the app is no spam-app, it was available in the Play Store for full 8 years, it had very good reviews, and was used by a lot of people (my access to the app statistics has been disabled as well, so I can’t provide you the actual values). Furthermore, the app makes no data usage, it doesn’t connect to the Internet, neither it has access to the device storage, so there is absolutely no privacy concern related.

At last, the Orthodox Calendar for Sony SmartWatch is available in Greek language.

It contains the full calendar of saints and the icons, as used in the full app version for Android. This goes for SmartWatch 2 devices only.

SmartWatch 1 users would not see any icons, nor full calendar of saints, only the feast / main saint of the day.

The app supports both the old (Julian) and the new (Gregorian) calendar, there is a checkbox in the app settings.

The app in it’s version 2 contains the full calendar of saints and the icons, as used in the full app version for Android. This goes for SmartWatch 2 devices only.

Orthodox Calendar for the SmartWatch 2

I’ve completely reworked the Orthodox Calendar for the Sony SmartWatch. Now it takes full advantage of the larger display, and the new features – such as long lists, thus:
* Icons are displayed for the feasts and some of the saints
* Full calendar of saints is included for every day, just scroll down to see the full list of names.

Update of the Orthodox Calendar apps

The Orthodox Calendar apps in Russian, English and Greek have been updated to version 2.8. The update includes some content-related corrections, and hyphenation mechanism for the widget display. The later may still not work as it should, that has been reported, but I’ll fix it as soon as possible.

As for the logo, which has actually been changed since version 2.6, I see that not everybody is happy with the change, but that was done on demand, I received many complaints from the Russian users, that it was inappropriate to have the face of a saint tapped on every time one wants to open the app. I’ve received no such complaints for the cross.

Presenting the Orthodox Christian calendar in French language. The calendar includes the full calendar of feast and saints. It does not require Internet connection, and it can display both the old (Julian) and the new (Gregorian) calendar (there is a setting for the Calendar style).
